My name is Wilson and I am a job creator
About a month ago, I met a very interestingly open and smart person. His name is Wilson.
I met Wilson at a Taxi stage in Ntinda, —ku zigeenda e Gayaza. We talked for a while and he kept saying my name is Wilson and I am a job creator. True, he was high but that doesn’t take away the wisdom he endowed on me.
“Look at them fight for the taxis”, he said. “This is how you find a solution, by becoming observant”. Damn, Wilson is wise. I appreciate having met him.
As we talked though, he reminded me of this crazy idea I had conceived as I waited agonizingly for a taxi some time back. I wrote it down so I couldn’t forget the details.
The Big Idea ( Wilson Taxis )
I envisioned a world where one could be able at a touch of a button or train of thought —if we are to build it on top of Alexa— be able to “order” in a sense a Wilson Taxi —a safe and smart taxi.
I call it safe because I want to board a taxi that has the following properties, traits, characteristics? Shit, whatever you call these things below.
A hidden GPS tracker, for when we get lost or in case of an accident, the Emergency Alarm System will fire an SOS which is automatically sent to the nearest Wilson Taxi station which must be equipped with ambulances of course and an ER crew or something.
Scheduling is a big deal to me. So having that done with the Wilson Taxi is a the hugest deal alongside safety, of course. Imagine being able to find out which taxi is about to pass by your place with the exact sitting capacity and in how many minutes. Wouldn’t that be something?
Taxis, here in Uganda, which is where I am writing from are licensed to carry 14 passengers but we all know that is not the case with conductors having to sometimes go to the back and hold on from there because it is bana bana. That doesn’t feel safe to me. No, we won’t be doing that with Wilson taxis. The maximum will be 14, the conductor inclusive. Or to make more room, we find a way to digitize payments, but that is for later.
I have thought about the driver deeply because I drive too and having a camera point directly at the driver to monitor his/her behavior towards passengers and other road users is something I think should be addressed. We need to observe etiquette. This monitoring will be done by staff at the Wilson Taxi centers.
Emmotoka essisse? With Wilson Taxi, teri kusikira mukubo. Our taxis will always have enough fuel to get you where you are supposed to go.
DMCs, dangerous mechanical conditions have become part and parcel of most of the Taxis and other automobiles too that could cause discomfort, panic —when a dark angel in white is spotted— or sometimes even, frustration when they get pulled over because the treads on the tires are worn out. Which brings me to;
Making sure Wilson taxis are always serviced at least weekly, have up to standard tires, a jack, that ka triangle thingy that reflects light, in short, all the emergency tools including a first aid kit. Thinking about first aid, how about we train our Wilson Taxi conductors and drivers first aid basics —just because.
Route tracers that will aid the driver by automatically detecting traffic, accidents ahead, diversions and re-routing them to the most efficient and safest route. Damn, I love my mind. I hope someone reads this.
Steady fairs such that people don’t have to worry about drivers and conductors raising the fee just because they feel like it and because you have no other choice but to oblige.
The drivers will be registered and vetted thoroughly. No more fake driving permits and underage drivers.
For, those with luggage, well I haven’t thought of the best way to cater for you. Any suggestions, drop them in the comments. Let’s discuss this.
The idea is still raw and there’s lots of daydreaming but none of what I’ve written is impractical. Crazy, yes. Impractical, absolutely not. We can make this happen and help decrease unnecessary discomfort, road accidents, and kidnappings.
For the betterment of humanity
Oh, shit. WIFI, of course. Every Wilson Taxi will have free WIFI so you don’t get bored on the way or miss sending that email or listening to that podcast but we encourage you to socialize.
Don’t be like this
I am using Wilson because I want to honor the idea but I think Safe & Smart Taxi —SST is a good catch too.
